Situated 13 km southwest of Montbrun-les-Bains, Sault sits on a rocky spur overlooking the lavender-coloured valley for which it is famous. It is the starting point of the third (and least difficult) itinerary for the ascent of Mont Ventoux. The lavender festival traditionally takes place on 15th August in the grounds of the Deffends racecourse. You can also enjoy strolling through its market which has been held on Wednesday mornings since 1515 !

BANON AND THE “HAUTE PROVENCE”

Banon is a hilltop village perched on the side of a mountain in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.

Its main charm is the beauty of its landscapes, especially in summer when lavender fields extend over vast areas.

Furthermore, the reputation of the village comes from its cheese, the “banon”. Produced with goat’s milk and wrapped in a chestnut leaf.

Today, Banon is known for having one of the largest independent bookshops in France with over 100,000 books. The Le Bleuet bookshop.
