Musée du Scourtin

A unique exposition spot to celebrate 140 years of Scourtinerie Fert in the context of the olive and the fabrication of scourtins. Heritage of Provence. 5 generations of family adventure explained in memorial pictures and videos will prepare you to go upstairs and see a demonstration of scourtin fabrication on 1st floor.

Description

Heritage of Provence. An exhibition retraces the history of this family business since its foundation (divided into several distinct periods: 1882-1918, 1918-1970 and 1970-2000) and shows the evolution of scourtin manufacturing methods through the generations and the various inventions that facilitated it (scourtin loom patented by Ferdinand Fert in 1892, machine to remove the needles).
Numerous objects, found in the family archives, are on display, such as models of oil mills from different periods (from antiquity to the 19th century) made by Alain Fert. Finally, some of the ancestors of the Fert family, in the guise of human-sized papier-mâché mannequins, are represented at work, surrounded by numerous tools, giving a concrete idea of their way of working.
